A Nigerian man has lamented the financial pressure facing young Nigerians, saying many 31-year-olds are now scared to get married because of the expenses involved in starting and maintaining a family.
Speaking on the challenges confronting young adults, the man compared the situation in Nigeria with life abroad, where he claimed people are able to settle down and start families at a younger age because the system works better.
He said:
“Nigeria has spoiled our lives. A 31-year-old man is scared to get married because of the expenses. Your mate overseas has already married and has children. Over there, by 22 or 23, your life is set because the system works and life is balanced. But here, a 31-year-old is still a playboy, scared of the responsibility of feeding two mouths.”
His remarks have sparked reactions on social media, with some Nigerians agreeing that economic pressure has made adulthood and marriage more difficult for many young people.
