The Abia State Police Command has commenced a coordinated enforcement operation against vehicles with defaced, covered or improperly displayed registration number plates, as well as the unlawful use of tinted glasses without valid permits.
The exercise, which began on Monday, is being conducted across the state in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police and the instructions of the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo.
The operation is being led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Ifeanyi Ohuruzo, and involves personnel from the Area Command, Umuahia, the State Traffic Department and the Central Police Station.
Before the commencement of the exercise, the officers were briefed and directed to maintain professionalism, uphold high standards of conduct and adhere strictly to operational ethics throughout the enforcement.
The police urged motorists and other members of the public to comply with existing vehicle regulations by ensuring that registration number plates are properly displayed and free from any form of defacement or obstruction.
Owners of tinted vehicles were also urged to ensure that they possess valid permits issued by the appropriate authorities before operating such vehicles.
The police further called for the cooperation of members of the public as the enforcement continues, stressing that compliance is necessary to promote safety, law and order across the state.
However, members of the public were urged to promptly report any instance of misconduct or unprofessional behaviour by officers during the exercise to the Complaint Response Unit of the Abia State Command via 09031593827 or 09035401645.
The exercise is ongoing in Aba and various Area Commands across the state as part of efforts to strengthen security, enforce traffic and vehicle regulations, and protect lives and property.
Residents were also urged to cooperate with officers carrying out the exercise, as the enforcement is aimed at enhancing public safety across Abia.
