The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Ihuoma Emeruwa, has called for the re-election of Governor Alex Otti and the 24 Labour Party (LP) candidates for the Abia State House of Assembly in the 2027 general elections.
Emeruwa made the call while receiving the Labour Party flag as its candidate for Aba South State Constituency at the party’s campaign flag-off ceremony held at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
On behalf of the 24 Assembly candidates, the Speaker described the event as a renewed call to action for party members to take the message of consolidating the gains of the New Abia to every ward, community and polling unit ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said retaining a Labour Party dominated House of Assembly would provide the governor with the legislative support and stability required to sustain his administration’s development agenda.
Emeruwa urged party members and supporters in Aba South and across the state to unite behind Otti and all Labour Party candidates in the interest of peace, progress and continuity.
In his address, Governor Otti also appealed to Abians to support his re-election bid and other candidates of the party in 2027.
The governor recalled what he described as decades of poor governance, impunity and underdevelopment before the emergence of his administration.
He argued that returning the Labour Party to power at all levels would prevent the state from relapsing into an era characterised by neglect, unpaid salaries and infrastructural decay.
Otti charged party supporters to take the message of consolidation to every ward, polling unit and community, stressing the need to sustain his administration beyond 2027.
The flag off ceremony attracted party leaders, stakeholders and supporters from the 17 local government areas of the state.
