The factional National Chairman of the Accord Party, Professor Chris Inumolen, says he is confident the courts will eventually affirm his leadership despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognising another faction led by Barrister Maxwell Ngede.
Speaking on TVC News’ Beyond The Headlines on Wednesday, Inumolen maintained that he was the party’s national chairman by virtue of a court declaration and expressed optimism that the Federal High Court would rule in his favour.
“I am the national chairman of the party by court declaration. We are in a country of law and order. When there is an order from the High Court that INEC should recognise me and that was not done, we have gone to the Federal High Court,” he said.
He also referred to recent Court of Appeal decisions, arguing that they had strengthened his faction’s legal position.
“We are very positive that we are going to get a positive judgment from the Federal High Court,” he said.
Inumolen, however, pledged to accept any judgment against his faction.
“If the Federal High Court rules in favour of Maxwell, of course I would work with the Maxwell team. Whatever we are doing today is to make sure that we support the party.”
INEC currently recognises Barrister Maxwell Ngede as the Accord Party’s national chairman, while the leadership dispute remains before the courts.
