Nigerian athlete Jessica Oji marked her international debut for the country with a silver medal in the women’s shot put at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The 19-year-old produced a best throw of 17.87m to finish second in the final and secure a podium place for Team Nigeria.
Oji’s silver medal also saw her etch her name into Nigeria’s Commonwealth Games history, as she became the first Nigerian woman to win a shot put medal at the Games since Vivian Chukwuemeka achieved the feat at the 2006 edition in Melbourne.
