Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has warned against reported threats to peace and security in Ikirun town.
This is as Governor Adeleke directed the Nigeria Police to address alleged harassment of community leaders in the town.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed in Osogbo on Thursday, the governor expressed concern over reports of intimidation involving kingmakers and prominent figures in Ikirun.
The statement indicated that the development could undermine the relative peace currently enjoyed in the area.
According to the statement, “some leaders in Ikirun had sent a distress message alleging that unidentified security personnel had been harassing kingmakers since the early hours of the day.”
The governor noted that “the allegations, if not promptly addressed, could escalate tensions and disrupt public order within the community.”
He directed the Commissioner of Police in the state to take immediate action to investigate the situation and restore calm.
“I direct the state police command to protect kingmakers and stop the reported harassment of the leaders in the town,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
“We must not jeopardise the prevailing peace in the town,” he added.
Governor Adeleke urged security agencies to ensure the safety of residents, the palace, and all stakeholders in Ikirun.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order across Osun State while safeguarding the rights of all citizens.
