Nigerian airline operator, Air Peace, has confirmed that a London–Lagos flight operated by the company was disrupted on Friday after the aircraft experienced a bird strike.
It stated that the incident occurred on the airline’s service from Gatwick Airport to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, prompting the airline to ground the aircraft in line with standard safety procedures.
The airline’s spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, announced this in a statement on Friday.
“We wish to inform our esteemed passengers that our London (Gatwick)–Lagos service today experienced a bird strike.
“In line with standard safety protocols, the affected aircraft has been grounded for comprehensive inspection and necessary checks by our engineering team in London,” part of the statement read.
Efe added that passengers affected by the disruption have been contacted and provided with information on alternative arrangements.
DAILY POST reports that the reaction from Air Peace comes after Nigeria’s Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, called out the firm on Friday.
Akindele said passengers, including elderly people, were stranded since 6:30 a.m. at London Gatwick Airport with no proper communication.
“After hours of delay, we were told there was a bird strike and promised a hotel. Hours later, people are still sitting at baggage claim, hungry, exhausted, and without their bags,” the actress said.
