Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State on Monday said the security situation in the state had improved significantly, adding that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remained united in the state.
He said this when he briefed State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Alia said that the President sought updates on security, the return of Internally Displaced Persons and farming activities in the state.
He said: “Previously, we had lots of insecurity, but it has calmed down.
“The President wanted to know the position of the IDPs and whether they are voluntarily returning home.”
The governor added that discussions also focused on sustaining peace and ensuring farmers returned safely to their farmlands.
He revealed that Tinubu was also briefed on the political situation in the state and ongoing efforts to strengthen the APC.
He noted that former Governor Gabriel Suswam accompanied him to the meeting after recently aligning with the APC.
He said: “We needed to update the President on the political situation.
“Benue is relatively calm, peace has returned, and we are hoping for the very best.”
Alia acknowledged concerns among some APC members following the party’s primaries, but expressed confidence that the issues would be resolved.
He said: “Mr. President is a democrat who understands these things.
“We are working together for the APC, and I am confident we will double the votes for him.”
Alia further said that the APC would remain united and stronger ahead of future elections in the state, while thanking Tinubu for the support during the Benue at 50 celebration.
He assured that his administration would continue to deliver projects that improve the lives of residents of the state.
He also pledged massive support for Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
