Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has issued a stern warning to the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, over the ongoing investigation into the deaths of miners in Niger State.
The minister warned NSCDC officials against any attempt to interfere with the investigation or tamper with evidence connected to the incident.
“Any attempt to destroy or conceal evidence, intimidate witnesses, or obstruct this investigation will be treated as a serious offence against the nation and will not be tolerated. If it ever happens, I give you my word, the full hammer of the law will descend on such an individual,” Tunji-Ojo said.
The warning comes as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of miners who were in NSCDC custody in Niger State.
Tunji-Ojo has also called for the preservation of all relevant records and evidence while the investigation is ongoing, stressing that anyone found culpable should face the appropriate consequences.
