Veteran actor Olu Ogogo has opened up about the health challenges that preceded the death of his colleague, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Speaking in an interview with City People, Olu recounted how the late actor first complained of chest pain while they were on a trip to Ilaro.
According to him, Ogogo was taken to a hospital, where he received treatment and was advised to get adequate rest. However, the actor later expressed his desire to travel to India for further medical attention.
Olu explained that the process of obtaining a visa delayed the planned trip. By the time the visa was eventually secured, Ogogo had become too weak to travel by air.
He said a doctor was subsequently brought in from India to attend to the actor. The doctor reportedly recommended that Ogogo be transferred to another hospital in Lagos, where specialists continued his treatment.
Olu recalled that Ogogo initially showed signs of improvement, as he was responding to treatment and gradually able to eat.
However, his health reportedly took a turn for the worse about five days before his death.
According to Olu, the family moved the actor between hospitals while doctors carried out various tests and worked to manage his pain. It was during this period that the family was eventually informed that Ogogo had cancer.
The diagnosis reportedly came as a shock to those around him, especially as his health had deteriorated within a short period.
Ogogo died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, following a battle with stage-four cancer. His daughters had earlier made the diagnosis public days before his passing.
Reflecting on the actor’s final days, Olu said he believed Ogogo was spared from enduring a prolonged period of suffering.
He described the late actor as a kind-hearted man and prayed for the continued repose of his soul.
