The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has announced the immediate disengagement of Online Integrated Solution, OIS Services, as the operator of Nigeria’s Visa Application and Submission Centres in the United States.
The Service disclosed this in a public notice issued on Thursday, advising prospective travellers and Nigerians residing in the United States who may require visas to enter Nigeria to take note of the new arrangement.
According to the NIS, OIS Services has been disengaged from the collection and submission of visa applications on behalf of Nigerian missions in the United States with immediate effect.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service hereby informs the general public, particularly prospective travellers and Nigerians residing in the United States of America who may require a visa to enter Nigeria, that Online Integrated Solution (OIS SERVICES), the operator of Nigeria’s Visa Application and Submission Centers in the United States, has officially been disengaged from the collection and submission of visa applications on behalf of the Nigerian Mission, effective immediately,” the notice stated.
Following the disengagement, NIS directed all applicants seeking Nigerian visas in the United States to submit their applications directly at the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, D.C., or at the Nigerian Consulates in New York and Atlanta until further notice.
“Accordingly, all applicants seeking Nigerian visas are required to submit their applications directly at the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, D.C., or at the Consulates of Nigeria in New York and Atlanta until further notice,” the Service added.
The NIS assured applicants that the Nigerian Embassy and Consulates in the United States have put adequate measures in place to ensure seamless submission, processing and issuance of visas during the transition.
It also urged applicants to monitor the official communication channels of the Nigeria Immigration Service and Nigerian missions in the United States for further updates on visa application procedures.
The Consulate General of Nigeria in New York also confirmed the development in a notice on its website, informing prospective applicants, including Nigerians in the diaspora, that OIS has discontinued the collection and submission of visa applications on behalf of the Consulate.
Before its disengagement, OIS Services operated Nigeria’s outsourced visa application and submission centres in several U.S. locations, including Washington, D.C., Houston, Atlanta, Los Angeles and New Jersey, where applicants submitted documents and completed biometric processes for Nigerian visa applications.
Neither the Nigeria Immigration Service nor the Nigerian missions in the United States disclosed the reason for ending the arrangement with OIS Services.
The development means that visa applicants in the U.S. will no longer use OIS centres for Nigerian visa application collection and submission pending further directives from the authorities.
The NIS said it remains committed to improving service delivery and appreciated the cooperation of applicants during the transition.
