The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere widely known as ‘Justice Crack’ alongside several soldiers, following online posts highlighting alleged poor welfare and feeding conditions within the ranks.
In a statement released on Saturday, the acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, said the arrests stem from an ongoing investigation into possible breaches of military regulations and the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy.
According to the Army, the controversy began after soldiers’ complaints about their welfare surfaced on social media through the influencer’s platform. Authorities are now examining whether the posts amounted to misinformation or incitement.
Preliminary findings, the Army noted, suggest that the detained soldiers had interacted with Chidiebere on various issues, with the influencer allegedly encouraging dissatisfaction among personnel.
The statement also raised concerns that some discussions may have taken a subversive tone, warning about the risks of civilian interference in military affairs and its potential impact on discipline and national security.
“All indications point to attempts by civilians to influence vulnerable personnel in ways that could undermine order and security,” the Army said.
The military confirmed that while the affected soldiers remain in custody, Chidiebere has been transferred to the appropriate civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reaffirming its stance, the Nigerian Army stressed its commitment to due process and national security, adding that it will continue to work with relevant agencies to ensure accountability and justice.
