Suspected terrorists have launched a deadly attack on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in Tenebo community, located in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing at least three officers and leaving two others injured.
The assault, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday at about 1 a.m., sent residents fleeing as sustained gunfire rocked the quiet farming community.
According to local sources, the attackers arrived in large numbers and overwhelmed the security personnel stationed at the camp before carrying out the deadly operation.
A resident, Suleiman Issa, described the incident as terrifying, noting that the attackers stormed the area at midnight, killing and injuring several people.
“This happened around 1 a.m. in Tenebo village. It was a terrible situation. The attackers came in large numbers, invaded the community, killed people and left others wounded,” he said.
The spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the attack and assured that more details would be released.
“I can confirm that there was an attack on the PMF camp in the early hours of today. Further and more accurate information will be made available shortly,” she stated.
The latest attack highlights the worsening security situation in Kaiama Local Government Area, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted both civilians and security operatives.
In a similar incident on April 20, suspected terrorists reportedly attacked a joint security outpost in Kemanji community, killing at least three soldiers and two vigilantes while making away with military equipment, including a gun truck.
Earlier on April 10, five members of a local forest guard were killed in Nuku community, with the attackers also destroying vehicles and facilities.
The violence follows a major February 2026 attack on Woro and Nuku communities, where over 200 people were reportedly killed and about 176 others, including women and children, abducted, further deepening concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara State.
