The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recorded significant gains in its ongoing counter-insurgency campaign, with airstrikes eliminating numerous terrorists and destroying key facilities in Sambisa Forest and the Tumbuns axis of Borno State.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, said the operations were carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, targeting insurgent enclaves, logistics bases, and fortified hideouts based on credible intelligence.
He revealed that a major air interdiction mission took place on April 30 at Alafa, deep within Sambisa Forest, where identified supply hubs and structures were successfully destroyed.
The offensive was sustained on May 1 with another precision strike on terrorist positions in Metele, located in the Tumbuns region. According to Ejodame, surveillance and intelligence reports had earlier identified the area as a fortified island stronghold housing fighters, storage facilities, and defensive trench systems.
“NAF aircraft executed accurate strikes on the target, neutralising several insurgents and dismantling their defensive infrastructure,” he said.
Ejodame noted that the continued air offensives are part of a broader strategy to keep insurgent groups under constant pressure and prevent any attempt to regroup or launch fresh attacks.
Meanwhile, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, commended the personnel involved in the operations, applauding their professionalism and effectiveness.
He reaffirmed the Air Force’s resolve to maintain sustained, high-intensity operations until all terrorist threats across the region are completely eliminated.
