Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has officially stepped into the world of acting, making her first appearance as a film actress in a behind-the-scenes teaser for the upcoming Hollywood fantasy movie Children of Blood and Bone.
The teaser, which was shared on Instagram by the film’s director, Gina Prince-Bythewood, on Monday, offered fans an early glimpse into the highly anticipated Children of Blood and Bone production from Paramount Pictures.
Sharing the clip ahead of the official trailer release, Prince-Bythewood expressed her excitement about the project, writing: “So excited to share a peek behind the scenes of our incredible journey to Orisha. CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE trailer drops TOMORROW! And in theatres Jan. 15!”
The behind-the-scenes video featured Tems’ hit song “Me & U” as its soundtrack, further highlighting the growing influence of Nigerian creatives in the international film industry.
For Ayra Starr, whose real name is Sarah Aderibigbe, the role represents a major milestone in her career. The Grammy-nominated singer revealed that this project marks the first time she is portraying a fictional character rather than appearing as herself.
“It’s a big deal. It’s my first movie ever. I’ve been in a movie, but I was in the movie as Ayra Starr. This is the first time I’m playing another character,” she said.
The singer also opened up about the challenges of transitioning from music to acting, explaining that working on a film set required a different level of commitment and discipline.
According to her, she gained a deeper appreciation for actors after experiencing the demands of movie production.
“I’m used to being a singer and being a diva on set, but with this one in a movie it’s not about you. You have to be on set on time. I got used to military time and being on set on time, working hard. I respect actors so much more now. Their stamina is impeccable,” Ayra Starr stated.
The “Rush” hitmaker further revealed that acting has always been one of her passions, although she previously struggled with confidence when it came to taking on acting roles.
“It’s something I have always wanted to do. I love music, but I always loved the arts in general. I had always been shy when it comes to acting. This is the first time in my life I’ve been on camera, but I’m not singing; I’m acting,” she added.
With her transition from music to film, Ayra Starr joins a growing list of Nigerian talents making their mark on global entertainment platforms. Her appearance in Children of Blood and Bone marks a new chapter in her artistic journey beyond Afrobeats.
