Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), ending weeks of speculation about his political future.
The announcement was made on Saturday during a stakeholders’ meeting, where the governor was formally received into the APM and presented with the party’s membership card, constitution, and flag.
Speaking at the event, Mohammed described the APM as a credible platform free from internal legal disputes, offering him and his supporters a stable base to continue their political activities and service to the people.
He expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities it provided throughout his political journey.
“I want to sincerely acknowledge the PDP for the significant role it has played in our collective political experience,” he said. “It has been a platform through which we have served, grown, and contributed to the development of our state and the nation. We remain grateful for that opportunity.”
The governor explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with political allies and stakeholders, culminating in what he called a strategic move to the APM.
His defection effectively puts to rest earlier reports linking him with possible moves to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Prior to the move, the Bauchi PDP leadership had disclosed that discussions with the APC over a potential alliance collapsed due to disagreements on power-sharing arrangements, prompting the search for alternative political platforms.
