Ballon d’Or, PFA: ‘He’s best in Europe’ – Piers Morgan names player to win awards

English broadcaster, Piers Morgan has named Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice as the best player in Europe, insisting that the England international deserves to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

He said this dismissing the notion that Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes should receive the PFA Player of the Year award.

Morgan further stated that Rice is presently the best player in Europe based on his performances for Arsenal this season.

Rice has thrived for Arsenal this season, showcasing dominance in the midfield with five goals and 11 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.

His contributions have been pivotal in helping his team contend for both the Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League, firmly establishing the 27-year-old as a contender for the Ballon d’Or.

Declan Rice also delivered a significant performance for the Gunners during their recent 1-0 victory against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals on May 5.

Mikel Arteta and his team achieved a 2-1 win on aggregate, thereby advancing to the final.

On the other hand, Fernandes has also shown commendable form for Manchester United, accumulating eight goals and 21 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

Although the Portugal international is unlikely to secure the 2026 Ballon d’Or due to the Red Devils’ absence of silverware, he has been considered a strong candidate for the PFA Player of the Year award.

Nevertheless, Morgan expressed his views on X, “The notion that Bruno Fernandes could win the PFA Player of the Year over @_DeclanRice is absurd. Rice ought to win the Ballon d’Or as well; he has been the finest player in Europe.”
