Fresh political intrigue is unfolding in Kano State as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is reportedly making aggressive moves to recruit former Kano governorship candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
According to sources familiar with the development, influential figures within the party have intensified consultations with Gawuna’s political associates in an effort to persuade him to contest for governor under the ADC platform.
The behind-the-scenes negotiations are said to include attractive political incentives aimed at securing the support of the former deputy governor and his loyal political structure.
Insiders claim that the party has reportedly discussed the possibility of allocating key political opportunities, including State House of Assembly and House of Representatives tickets, to some of Gawuna’s loyalists as part of efforts to win his backing.
There are also reports that assurances of substantial campaign support have been placed on the table should he decide to accept the ADC’s offer and join the race.
Prominent political figures are believed to be playing key roles in the ongoing discussions. Among those reportedly involved in the persuasion efforts are former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal and former Ambassador Faruk Yabo.
Although Gawuna has previously reaffirmed his loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya political movement, sources suggest that the persistent lobbying from ADC leaders has prompted fresh consultations among his supporters and political allies.
Interestingly, the ADC is yet to officially announce the winner of its Kano governorship primary election, which was contested by Ibrahim Khalil and Ibrahim Little.
