The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the south, making former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi eligible to be the party’s flag bearer, news.ng reports.
The party disclosed this during its maiden national convention held in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The party also announced that the zoning of the 2027 presidential ticket to the south will be for a single term, while the 2031 ticket will be the north’s turn.
While the party is yet to make a further announcement on its choice of candidate, all indications suggest that Obi may emerge as the party’s candidate.
Recall that last Sunday, Obi defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Also, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has joined the party.
