Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has congratulated its Advisory Board Chairman, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, on his landmark recognition as the recipient of the Transparency International Amalia Award for Individual Professional Excellence one of the organisation’s highest global honours in the fight against corruption.
In a statement issued by the organisation, CAPPA described the award as a well deserved recognition of Rafsanjani’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, democratic governance, and the protection of citizens’ rights in Nigeria and across the globe.
The Amalia Award, named in honour of the late Amalia Kostanyan, former Chair of Transparency International Armenia, celebrates individuals and national chapters that have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and dedication in advancing anti-corruption efforts and promoting accountability.
Rafsanjani, a leading Nigerian civil rights advocate and Head of Transparency International Nigeria, received the prestigious award on July 1 during the Transparency International Movement Awards Ceremony, held at the close of the TI Summit 2026, which ran from June 29 to July 1.
With this recognition, Rafsanjani makes history as the first African to receive the Amalia Award for Individual Professional Excellence a milestone that underscores his enduring impact in the global anti-corruption movement.
For decades, Rafsanjani has stood as one of Africa’s most influential voices against corruption, consistently championing open governance, fiscal transparency, civic engagement, and strong, accountable institutions. His work has inspired citizens and civil society organisations to demand integrity and hold leaders accountable.
CAPPA noted that Rafsanjani’s leadership as Chairman of its Advisory Board has significantly strengthened the organisation’s mission to advance public interest, defend human rights, promote sound public policies, and ensure accountability among governments and corporations.
Speaking on the recognition, CAPPA’s Executive Director, Akinbode Oluwafemi, said:
