National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, has said more than 10 million Nigerians have benefited from the Federal Government’s conditional cash transfer programme.
Mr Yilwatda, however, said many of the beneficiaries were neither active on social media nor had access to mobile phones to publicly speak about the administration’s interventions.
He stated this after a three-day retreat of the APC National Executive Council in Maiduguri, Borno State.
According to him, the administration of President Bola Tinubu used savings from the removal of petrol subsidy to fund the cash transfer programme, under which beneficiaries received N75,000 each.
“We have given N75,000 to over 10 million Nigerians across the country using the conditional cash transfer under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
“Mind you, these people who are poor and vulnerable don’t have telephones to make calls. They are not on social media. They don’t have television. They cannot come and challenge and discuss as we are doing here, but they are out there,” he said.
Mr Yilwatda also cited road construction and the student loan scheme as other interventions by the administration.
“We are constructing roads and paying people who are working on the road sites, and construction is going across the country,” he said.
He added that the proposal by the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to restore petrol subsidy would reverse the gains recorded under the current administration.
