Chelsea Football Club will square off against Manchester City on May 16, 2026, in the FA Cup final after beating Leeds United 1-0, courtesy of Enzo Fernandez’s 23rd-minute goal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, news.ng reports.
Sunday’s victory brings relief to the Blues after five Premier League defeats under Liam Rosenior, who was sacked on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, reacting after the game, Calum McFarlane said the victory was long overdue.
‘‘It was important to get the win,’ he said. “I’m not sure if that’s in relation to having an FA Cup final or a carrot to look forward to, I think it was important to break the momentum and the form that we were in.
‘‘We were confident that we would do that today, and I think that completely changes the feel within the group. I think that was probably more important and gives us confidence going into the next five games.”
McFarlane, who took over from Rosenior on an interim basis, will have more on his hands in the remaining Premier League fixtures as they push to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
“We want to win every game for the fans in every competition,’ Calum continued. ‘It’s unfortunately not worked out like that this year, but we want to win every single game from now until the end of the season, as you do in any season, but it’s not about extra motivation,” he added.
On domestic duties, Chelsea will host Nottingham Forest on Monday, May 4, as they push for a top-four finish.
