The Dangote Group has been honoured with the Road Safety Corporate Excellence Award in recognition of its contributions to promoting safer transportation, accident prevention and responsible road use across Nigeria.
The award was presented by the Kogi State Government during the Kogi State Road Safety Stakeholders Conference held in Lokoja, the state capital.
The event brought together government officials, road safety regulators, transport operators and industry leaders to discuss strategies for reducing road crashes, improving traffic management and strengthening safety standards.
Presenting the award, the Kogi State Commissioner for Transport, Atuluku Victor Levi, said the honour recognised Dangote Group’s sustained commitment to road safety through partnerships with government agencies and other stakeholders.
He said the company had consistently supported initiatives aimed at reducing road accidents, promoting driver safety awareness and improving transportation safety across the country.
Levi noted that Kogi occupies a strategic position as a major transit corridor linking different parts of Nigeria, making collaboration among stakeholders crucial to protecting lives and ensuring efficient movement of goods and services.
He added that as one of Nigeria’s largest industrial conglomerates and a major user of the nation’s road network, Dangote Group had continued to uphold high safety standards in its logistics and transportation operations.
Receiving the award on behalf of the company, the Assistant Divisional Director of Dangote Cement Transport, Obajana Plant, Abdullahi Aliyu, described the recognition as a motivation to intensify the company’s commitment to road safety.
“This award reflects Dangote Group’s unwavering commitment to safety as a core value across all our operations. We remain dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote safer roads, protect lives and contribute to sustainable economic development,” he said.
Aliyu stressed that road safety remained a collective responsibility requiring stronger collaboration among government, corporate organisations and road users.
According to him, the company would continue investing in driver training, safety awareness campaigns and responsible transport practices to reduce accidents on Nigerian highways.
He added that safety was embedded in the company’s corporate culture and not merely a regulatory obligation.
Aliyu also said the recognition aligned with Dangote Group’s sustainability agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly efforts aimed at promoting safer roads and sustainable mobility.
Stakeholders at the conference commended private sector organisations supporting road safety campaigns, noting that effective collaboration between government and industry remained critical to addressing transportation challenges and improving public safety.
The latest recognition comes weeks after Dangote Cement Transport inaugurated a modern drivers’ lounge at its Ibese Plant in Ogun State to improve the welfare of its drivers and reduce fatigue-related road accidents.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Head of Dangote Cement Transport, Murilo Silva, urged drivers to make full use of the facility by resting adequately before embarking on trips, saying the initiative was designed to promote their wellbeing and enhance safety on the roads.
