A drone strike on the southern Sudanese city of Rabak has killed 11 people, a local hospital source told AFP on Tuesday, with a second drone strike reported further north in Khartoum state.
A security source said the strike targeted the Joint Forces, a coalition of armed groups fighting alongside the army in the war against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces that began in April 2023.
A number of vehicles belonging to the Joint Forces were struck, including some carrying weapons and ammunition which caught fire, two eyewitnesses said.
Elsewhere, a drone strike hit a hospital in Sudan’s Khartoum state, a security source and eyewitnesses told AFP, the first such attack there in months after the state was recaptured by the army a year ago from its paramilitary rivals.
“It has caused damage to hospital buildings,” said a resident of the state’s Jebel Awliya area, 40 kilometres (24.8 miles) south of Khartoum’s city centre.
The security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the damage to the hospital was “light” and that the drone strike also “hit a gas station near the hospital”.

The war has killed tens of thousands across the country, with some estimates of more than 200,000 dead.
The conflict has caused one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises.
The Joint Forces, a coalition led by former rebel leaders in Darfur who have since joined the central government, have been integral to the army’s war effort.
