Ebonyi Air Yet to Take Off Seven Months After Governor Nwifuru’s Promise

Seven months after Governor Francis Nwifuru announced that three aircraft branded Ebonyi Air had been procured and would land at the Ebonyi Airport by January 26, 2026, the promised airline is yet to commence operations.

In his New Year broadcast, the governor had declared: “I have procured three aircraft branded Ebonyi Air. By January 26, 2026, they will land at Ebonyi Airport.”

The delay has sparked criticism from some residents and commentators, who argue that the state’s airport has yet to become fully functional and question the government’s decision to invest in an airline amid widespread economic challenges.

Critics contend that many residents cannot afford air travel and have urged the state government to prioritize essential infrastructure and social services over prestige projects. The Ebonyi State Government has not publicly explained the delay in launching the airline.
