Ekiti police reacts as two students die during post-convocation party

The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident at Emirate Hotel, Ikere-Ekiti, which resulted in the death of a hotel staff member and two students of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI).

Preliminary investigation revealed that the students had gathered at the hotel for a post-convocation party after their ceremony on April 18, 2026.

The party extended into the early hours of the following day.

During the event, an argument ensued between two yet-to-be-identified students which degenerated into a fight.

In an attempt to flee the premises, other guests rushed out of the hotel, triggering a stampede that led to the death of three persons.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.

CP Adegoroye expressed condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims and called for calm.

He assured the public that the Command will leave no stone unturned in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A statement by the State PPRO, SP Sunday Abutu said investigation was ongoing.
