A former Treasurer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Secretary-General of Uwheru Kingdom, Chief Edewor Akpedafe, has been hospitalised after he was allegedly attacked by suspected political thugs in Ughelli, Delta State.
Akpedafe is currently receiving treatment at the Central Hospital, Ughelli, after he was allegedly brutally beaten during a meeting in the area.
He was reportedly left with serious injuries following the incident.
The attack reportedly occurred at the Ughelli residence of Olorogun Miller Uloho, Chairman of the Ughelli North LGA Advisory Committee, where a meeting was being held to resolve a lingering land dispute over the ownership of an oil facility between Evwreni Kingdom (Unenurhie) and Uwheru Kingdom.
A source who reportedly witnessed the incident alleged that two political leaders arrived at the meeting venue with about 50 persons in three Sienna buses and two mobile policemen attached to the LGA Chairman.
Akpedafe, who was representing Uwheru Kingdom at the meeting, was allegedly attacked and severely beaten at the venue.
The source further alleged that he was subsequently dragged into one of the Sienna buses, where the assault continued.
The two mobile policemen were also accused of hitting him with the butts of their firearms during the incident.
Akpedafe was thereafter allegedly taken to the Ughelli North LGA Secretariat, where the beating reportedly continued.
His condition was said to have deteriorated at the secretariat, prompting those present to take him to the office of the Area Commander, ACP Olasunkanmi Musiliu, of the Ughelli Area Command.
It was gathered that the Area Commander, upon seeing Akpedafe’s condition, directed that he be immediately taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
As of press time, Akpedafe was reportedly undergoing treatment, with doctors attending to injuries sustained on his head and other parts of his body.
The alleged attack has generated concerns among members of the Uwheru community and political circles in Ughelli, particularly as it reportedly occurred during a meeting convened to mediate a dispute and find a peaceful resolution to the matter.
The identities and roles of those involved in the alleged assault, as well as the circumstances that led to the incident, could not be independently established as of press time.
