The Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate, Eze Frederick Nwajiagu, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos, Dr. Jonathan Nnaji, at his office in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Eze Nwajiagu was accompanied on the visit by the President-General of the Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos, Chief Sunday Udeh, popularly known as Onwa.
The visit was to formally welcome Dr. Nnaji back to Nigeria following his recent return from abroad, where he had gone for medical treatment and rest.
Dr. Nnaji, a respected community leader and seasoned sports administrator, had been away for several months attending to his health.
Dr. Nnaji received Eze Nwajiagu and his entourage warmly, describing the visit as a sign of unity and respect within the Igbo community in Lagos.
In his remarks, Eze Nwajiagu commended Dr. Nnaji for his contributions to the growth and cohesion of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos over the years. He also expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended to him and his team during the meeting.
“I am happy to see our BOT Chairman back home in good health. His presence strengthens our community, and we pray for continued good health and long life,” Eze Nwajiagu said.
The meeting was held behind closed doors. Sources present at the meeting revealed that discussions centered on the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, including peace-building, cultural preservation, and strengthening ties among Igbo leaders across the state.
During the deliberations, Eze Nwajiagu formally informed Dr. Nnaji of his intention to contest for the position of Eze Ndigbo of Lagos State. He sought the blessings and guidance of the BOT Chairman as an elder and custodian of Igbo traditions in Lagos.
In his response, Dr. Jonathan Nnaji thanked Eze Nwajiagu for the visit and for acknowledging his return home. He emphasized the need for all Igbo leaders in Lagos to work together in unity, regardless of political or traditional affiliations.
“Leadership should be about service to our people and upholding the dignity of the Igbo culture in Lagos,” Dr. Nnaji stated.
The courtesy visit was seen by observers as a strategic move by Eze Nwajiagu to secure the support of key stakeholders within the Igbo Speaking Community ahead of the Eze Ndigbo of Lagos stool.
The Igbo Speaking Community BOT, led by Dr. Nnaji, plays a crucial advisory role in mediating disputes and guiding traditional and cultural matters concerning Ndigbo in Lagos State.
The presence of Chief Sunday Udeh, the President-General of the community, at the meeting further underscored the importance of the visit and the need for alignment among the major leadership structures of Ndigbo in Lagos.
