Family members, friends, political associates, and well-wishers converged on Owo, Ondo State, to commemorate the 70th posthumous birthday of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, with a special thanksgiving service.
The memorial service, held at his residence in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), Owo, drew dignitaries and admirers from across the country, who paid glowing tributes to the late statesman.
Speakers at the event described Akeredolu as a courageous leader, a principled politician, and a devoted public servant whose legacy of service, integrity, and commitment to the development of Ondo State continues to inspire many.
They offered prayers in his honour and celebrated the enduring impact he made during his lifetime.

His wife, Betty Anyanwwu Akeredolu was present at the service.
Akeredolu died on December 27, 2023, after a prolonged illness while still serving as governor. He was 67 years old.
Born on July 21, 1956, Akeredolu studied law at Obafemi Awolowo University, then known as the University of Ife, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1978.
He became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 1998 and served as Ondo State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice from 1997 to 1999. In 2008, he was elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), earning national recognition for his outspoken defence of the rule of law, constitutional governance, and judicial independence.
Akeredolu was elected Governor of Ondo State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 2016 governorship election and was sworn into office on February 24, 2017. During his first term, his administration focused on infrastructure development, healthcare, education, industrialisation, and security, including championing the establishment of the South-West Security Network, codenamed Amotekun.
He secured a second term after winning the October 2020 governorship election and was sworn in for another four-year tenure on February 24, 2021. He remained in office until his death in December 2023, leaving behind a legacy of bold leadership and public service that continues to be celebrated by many across Nigeria.
