The family of a woman who perished in a tragic road crash while on her way to check on her daughter following the fire incident at Utumishi Girls Academy dormitory has broken its silence.

The deceased, identified as Faith Koskei from Kapkures in Nakuru, was travelling with her husband, niece and sister when their car crashed in Gilgil on 8 May.
The widower suffered fractures to his shoulder and hip, while their niece, who was also a student at Utumishi Girls Academy and had been sent home before the fire tragedy to collect school fees, and her mother escaped with minor injuries.

Family spokesperson Robinson Kibet sympathised with Faith’s husband, wondering how he would cope after returning home from hospital to find that his wife was no longer there.

Her father-in-law, Henry Koskei, described Faith as a remarkable woman and revealed that she was his trusted adviser.
“She was a strong and good woman, my counsellor. I could not do anything without discussing and planning it with Faith,” he said.
How is Faith Koskei’s husband’s health condition?
Henry revealed that his son was still hospitalised and receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the tragic road accident.
He appealed to the government for financial assistance, citing the mounting hospital bills as well as the burial expenses for his daughter-in-law.
“He underwent surgery yesterday and was out by 3 pm, but he still requires another operation on his hip joint,” Henry stated.
The family also called for justice, saying Faith’s death was directly linked to the dormitory fire incident.
Cherop Kattah, the late Faith’s sister, urged the government to thoroughly investigate the fire and implement measures in all schools to prevent a similar tragedy from occurring in the future.

“No parent should have to go through what we are going through,” said Cherop.
What did Utumishi Girls student say after her mum’s death?
Faith’s daughter recounted how she became increasingly anxious while waiting for her parents until late in the afternoon, unaware that they had been involved in an accident.
Although her dormitory was not destroyed by the fire, she sustained minor physical injuries during the stampede that followed.
The young girl said she has since forgiven those responsible for the tragedy because her mother had always advised her against holding grudges.
“I wanted to hate them, and honestly, I was angry with them. But Mum had always told me never to hate anyone because even if I did, it would not change what had already happened,” she stated.
