Hon. Ifeanyi Uzokwe, a member of the House of Representatives representing Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in Anambra State, has defended his move, alongside his colleagues, to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), news.ng reports.
Hon. Uzokwe, who appeared on Channels Television on Tuesday evening, accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of taking over the ADC’s coalition structure, claiming that the party’s internal arrangement has been bought over.
He stated, “We left ADC because His Excellency Atiku Abubakar said that coalition was formed in his house, that ADC is his party, that nobody will tell him anything.”
According to him, his colleagues in the House approached the former Vice President to persuade him to step down for Obi and Rotimi Amaechi to contest in the ADC’s primary, but their efforts fell on deaf ears.
“Let Atiku say he is stepping down today, that Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi should go to the field and do primaries,” he said.
Uzokwe criticised the leadership of the ADC for misleading Nigerians on what led to the exit of Obi and other members of the party.
“Somebody that stood for election in 2023, and you are telling me about primaries. My brother, stop telling lies to Nigerians. Tell us how you people came into coalition,” he declared.
Amid the breakout from the ADC, in which a majority of Obi’s political movement — the Obidient — are aligning themselves with the NDC, the federal lawmaker confirmed that Rabiu Kwankwaso’s movement — Kwankwasiyya — is in line with the agenda of supporting a Southern candidate.
