First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to demonstrate greater love for the country and show compassion towards one another, saying such acts are essential to strengthening national unity and promoting the core values of the nation.
In a statement signed by SSA Media to the First Lady Busola Kukoyi on Tuesday, Senator Tinubu made the call when she received the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Shaul Freeman, who paid her a courtesy visit.
The First Lady emphasised the importance of compassion, love and mutual assistance among Nigerians, describing the willingness of those who are comfortable to support others as an act of godliness.
“I love, Nigeria, it is a great country and there is no investment that you put in Nigeria that goes to waste”.
She added, “The more I discover who we are, the more I see how blessed this nation is and I pray that the young people and the coming generation can see that this is a great nation”.
“It is amazing how God has put us together but to now find allies from foreign countries believing in this country, is a great blessing,” she said.
The First Lady further urged Nigerians to extend compassion to one another, saying, “We really need to show compassion to one another and showing compassion, it takes a lot of godliness, all it takes is for a comfortable person to help others”.
Earlier, Freeman commended the various programmes of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in women empowerment, agriculture, youth development and education, noting their impact on vulnerable Nigerians.
The ambassador also highlighted areas of humanitarian cooperation between Israel and Nigeria, including support for less privileged people, hospital and orphanage outreaches.

Freeman disclosed that he would be rounding off his posting in Nigeria in one week, adding that he considered it important to meet with the First Lady to express his appreciation and love for the country.
“There is a new team and they are ready to work with the Nigerian nation. The Israeli government has been able to do some works with the orphanages and on behalf of the Embassy, we would be donating more wheel chairs to them,” he said.
He added that Israel would continue to support Nigeria’s health sector through the donation of three ambulances and medical collaboration.
“Israel will also be donating 3 State of the Art Ambulances to the health system. We have trained Nigerian Doctors and we also bring in Israeli Doctors to help the system. We have also been doing a lot in the area of agriculture and will continue to do so”.
Reflecting on his diplomatic experience in Nigeria, Freeman said, “For me, Nigeria has been the most incredible experience, I have had the most fantastic time and I want you to know that we are committed to the nation including our Foreign Minister, the Prime Minister, the President and our first Lady.”
He reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Nigeria, saying, “Nigeria is our partner, Nigeria is our friend and we are ready to do incredible things for our friends and partners”.
Also present at the courtesy visit were the Deputy Chief of Mission, Rachel Mishel Stavissky, and the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, Bishop STV Adegbite.
