Nigerian comedian Basketmouth has stirred reactions on social media after playfully comparing Ghanaian barbers to their Nigerian counterparts following a fresh haircut during a visit to Ghana.
Taking to his Instagram Story, the comedian praised the skills of his Ghanaian barber while joking that Nigerian barbers still have work to do.
Basketmouth wrote:
“Our jollof rice may be better than theirs 🇳🇬🍽️… but Ghanaian barbers make our barbers look like bricklayers. 🇬🇭”
He added:
“This barber got me looking like a babe.”
The lighthearted post has since gone viral, reigniting the friendly rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana. While some fans agreed with his assessment of Ghanaian barbers, others defended Nigerian barbers, insisting they are equally talented.
In other news… Nigerian food critic Opeyemi Famakin has stirred controversy online after sharing his concerns about raising his future children in Nigeria, citing worries about the kind of environment they may grow up in.
Famakin, who spoke during a recent discussion, revealed that although he has no intention of relocating abroad, he is concerned about exposing his children to what he described as a society where critical thinking is lacking.
According to him, he wants to remain in Nigeria and contribute to the country’s growth rather than “japa,” but he fears his children may be influenced by what he considers negative societal attitudes.
“In real life, Nigerians, the way Nigerians are dull, it scares me for my children, because I don’t want to japa. I want to build Nigeria. But my kids, my kids cannot grow up with these dullards. My kids cannot, and they are loud about it.”
The food critic also compared Nigerians and Ghanaians, stating that while Nigerians are known for their business abilities, creativity, and determination to succeed, he believes Ghanaians demonstrate stronger critical thinking skills.
“Ghanaians are smarter than Nigerians. It’s just, they are not as hardworking. No, they are not as hardworking, they are not hustlers. Nigerians are business smart. You can be business smart and dull generally.”
Famakin explained that being successful in business does not necessarily mean someone is intelligent in other areas of life, especially when it comes to reasoning and problem-solving.
“Being business smart and smart in real life are different things. You can be business smart, you can kill it in the business space, but in real life, in critical thinking, you can be a dull piece of sh*t.”
