A 33-year-old hawker in Nairobi, identified as Antony Kalisa, was overwhelmed with joy after receiving a surprise from a well-wisher on Father’s Day.

Antony was going about his business in Githurai, Nairobi County, selling bags when he met Shiksha Arora, who offered to spend the day with him and gift him KSh 5,000.
The father of three gladly accepted the offer, unaware that the simple gesture would turn into a life-changing moment.

At 2 pm, Antony had not sold a single bag and revealed that, even on a good day, he could only sell up to three bags, earning a profit of about KSh 500 from all three.

The father of three explained that he works tirelessly to pay his children’s school fees and support his wife, who lives in the village with their children.
“I live in Huruma area and pay KSh 2,500 for rent. My wife takes care of the children back in the village, where they study, as I look for money to pay the bills. I did not go to high school, but my children have to study. They are very bright. My 16-year-old is currently at home because of school fees,” he said.
Shiksha later took Antony to a mall, where they had lunch as he opened up about his life, his struggles and the sacrifices he has made for his family.
He shared that his wife had been a pillar of strength, encouraging him to keep pushing despite the challenges. Antony also revealed that he does not drink alcohol and remains focused on working hard for his family.

According to him, God has protected his hustle, and even when he encounters difficult people, they often respect his determination and allow him to continue with his work.
“To my wife, I want her to know that one day God will provide. If I get money, I will visit her,” he said.
Father’s Day surprise leaves hawker emotional
After shopping for food items, Antony received KSh 91,555 through M-Pesa, leaving him emotional and briefly speechless.
He hugged Shiksha several times as he thanked her for the kindness she had shown him and his family.
Overwhelmed with happiness and already planning how he would use the money, Antony called his wife to share the good news.
“Babe, our son will now return to school. It is Father’s Day, and I have been given this money. I will pay school fees and use the rest to grow my business. I will not go to work tomorrow; I will travel to visit them and pay his fees,” he said.
Antony could not hide his excitement as he danced and got on his feet while thanking Shiksha for the incredible gesture.
