“Grow a thick skin if you desire fame” – Timi Dakolo recounts how caring for a little girl sparked love-child rumours

Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has advised people who desire fame to develop a thick skin, sharing how an innocent act of caring for a little girl at an event allegedly led to reports that she was his love child.

Dakolo shared the experience while reflecting on the challenges that come with being a public figure, noting that fame can make even harmless situations become the subject of speculation.

He wrote: “I carried a little girl at an event, she just wouldn’t go back to her mum. So I parented her all evening. Next thing I saw online, Timi and his love child are inseparable. This space is a mad house..”

He accompanied the revelation with a message advising celebrities and aspiring public figures to prepare themselves for the scrutiny that comes with being famous.

“Grow a thick skin if you desire fame. You will definitely need it. You can go to bed a happy fellow and wake up with news of you in some mess. And because you are famous, the odds are already against you. So people are always looking for who to drown. Being in the spotlight makes you an obvious target. Grow a thick skin because being famous is a whole lot.”

His post has sparked reactions online, with some Nigerians sharing similar experiences while others pointed out how easily social media users can create stories around celebrities from innocent moments.

@Man Of Vawulence: Naso I dey my house dey chill one day, my neighbor just come show me online news wey sey two girls dey fight over me sey I give them belle

@Chijioke Adimike: The strange thing about fame is that people can create a whole story from one innocent moment, then expect you to explain a story they invented.

Sometimes being misunderstood is simply part of being visible.
