The sister of Mene Ogidi, the 28-year-old man allegedly killed during a police operation in Effurun, Delta State, has emotionally recounted the events leading to his death.
Her account comes amid growing outrage over the shooting, which has continued to generate reactions online and calls for accountability.
Speaking about the day of the incident, she said her brother left home on a Sunday after informing the family that he was going to collect a waybill for a friend.
“The day the thing happen na Sunday. When he wan comot from house, he tell me say he wan go collect waybill. He say one of him friends for Sapele ask am make he help am pick am.”
She further explained that Mene had issues with his phone before leaving, prompting their mother to lend him hers.
“He come talk say him phone get issue, so make my mama give am her phone make he use am. My mama give am the phone, he come put card. After that, he call the friend with my mama phone, and the person send am money for transport to go the place.”
According to her, the family became worried after they stopped hearing from him and repeated calls were unanswered.
“After some time, we no hear from am again. I begin call the number wey he use call the friend, but nobody pick.”
She said the family later heard that police had shot someone in the area and rushed there, only to discover it was Mene.
“Later, people come tell us say police shoot person for that area. We rush go there. When we reach, we see say na my brother. He don already… them don kill am.”
The grieving sister also rejected claims that her brother had a firearm.
“Them say dem find gun inside the car wey he enter, but my brother no get any gun. Na just to go collect waybill he dey go.”
She further alleged that officers prevented the family from getting close to the body before taking it away.
“The police no even allow us go near the body well. Them just carry am go like that.”
She added that the viral video was the only reason the family understood what happened.
“If to say nobody video am, we for no even know wetin really happen. We for still dey find am till today.”

Bro was an armed robber n would have killed someone if he hasn’t already done so. He got what he deserved. Policeman too will face his own punishment but IMO he took out the trash.
@MarshalEmmy
As for me, from the DPO to the least police officer in that station should be arrested and face possible trial. For this to happen with such confidence means is not the first time.
@chiderashedrac2
This shows that they denied it, if not for this video no one will ever know what happened to him
