The Hisbah Command in the Katagum Zone of Bauchi State has arrested seven men in Azare Local Government Area over allegations of involvement in a prohibited wife-sharing arrangement within a group known as “Wuddadu.”
The group was accused of engaging in an unlawful practice involving the exchange of spouses among members for marital relations.
Speaking to journalists, the Zonal Commander, Malam Ridwan Muhammad Khairan, said the suspects were apprehended after residents and other members of the community raised concerns about the activities of the group.
He explained that investigations indicated the individuals allegedly organised arrangements in which married women were exchanged among themselves, a practice he said is not supported by Islamic teachings.
According to him, the suspects reportedly attempted to justify their actions by referencing a dream claimed by one of the members, an explanation the command dismissed as unacceptable.
Khairan stressed that such behaviour contradicts both religious principles and societal moral standards, warning against practices considered harmful to community values.
He added that the arrests were carried out by the Command’s enforcement unit under “Operation Ko Ba Kobo,” following credible intelligence and public complaints about the group’s activities.
