Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has sparked reactions online after sharing a strongly worded message addressing a controversial relationship matter.
The actress, known for her outspoken nature, took to social media to express her thoughts on what she described as betrayal, questioning the celebration of a woman she believes gained recognition at the expense of another woman’s pain.
In her post, Rita Edochie questioned the use of the title “queen” for someone she accused of taking what does not belong to her.
“Hmmm, a queen? She collected someone’s crown wrapped in a masculine figure yet you call her a queen? How? Who made her a queen? What made her a queen?” she wrote.
The actress further asked, “By stealing what does not belong to her? By building her triumph on the ashes of another woman’s tears?”
Defining what she considers true royalty, Rita stated: “A true queen is a woman of dignity, grace, and honour. She does not sneak into the dark to dismantle what she did not plant. She does not tear down another woman’s sanctuary to erect her own plastic throne.”
She also criticized those supporting the situation, saying, “To anyone out there supporting the blatant evil she did, anyone hailing her, validating her, and making her feel like this treachery is right, let us call it what it is.”
Addressing men who support such situations, the actress questioned how they would react if similar circumstances affected their own homes.
“To the men supporting this madness, praising an adulterous woman for shattering the peace of a home another woman labored to build for decades, may the concept of polyandry in Africa begin with you and your entire household,” she stated.
Rita Edochie continued by challenging supporters to consider the situation from another perspective, adding, “Let us see how your ego holds up then. Let us see how much you love ‘sharing’ when the table is turned.”
The actress also condemned what she described as society’s tendency to avoid calling out wrongdoing, criticizing comments such as “what is your business?” and “are you better than her?”
“Which marriage exactly? The one built on stolen ground? The one birthed from betrayal? Let us stop dressing up wickedness in the robes of ‘mind your business,’” she wrote.
Concluding her message, Rita Edochie maintained that actions have consequences, stating, “A thief is a thief, even if she wraps the stolen goods in gold and calls it a blessing.”
