Nigerian singer, Divine Uzama, a.k.a Zerry DL has recently opened up about his early journey into music, revealing that he began his musical career before his elder brother, popular artiste Shallipopi.
Zerry DL shared that his brother initially discouraged him from pursuing music, as he was focused on achieving his ambition of becoming a medical doctor. According to Zerry DL, Shallipopi’s priorities at the time were centered on academics and building a professional career in medicine.
“I started making music before my brother Shallipopi. He first discouraged me because he was chasing his dream of becoming a doctor,” he said.

However, the narrative later changed when circumstances took an unexpected turn. Zerry DL disclosed that after gaining admission to the university, Shallipopi was offered Fishery instead of his preferred course, a development that ultimately led him to reconsider his path.
“It was when the university gave him Fishery to study that he later joined me and we started freestyling together,” he added.
The revelation offers insight into the background of the two brothers, who have since become notable figures in Nigeria’s scenes.
As both artistes continue to gain traction within the Afrobeats space, their shared history serves as a reminder that success does not always follow a linear path.
Zerry DL began his musical journey by sharing freestyle raps and song covers on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. He honed his skills through regular freestyling, often collaborating with friends and occasionally creating music alongside his brother, Shallipopi.
