The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), has begun an evacuation of six thousand linear metres of township waterways in its catchment areas, including Argungu water collector, in Kebbi state.
The managing director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, Katukan Yauri, announced this during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera in his palace last weekend.
He informed the monarch that the management of the commission was in the palace to brief him about the 2026 Flood Awareness and Advocacy Campaign.
“HYPPADEC seeks for your sustained support in mobilising people of the emirate to heed early warning and adopt necessary precautionary measures against flooding.
“Your Royal Highness, we are here with 100 modern life jackets for presentation to the communities within the Emirate which falls into our catchment areas.
“The purpose is to enhance water transportation safety and reduce the incidence of drowning,” he said.
Responding, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera, commended HYPPADEC for its untiring intervention aimed at reducing the impact of flooding in affected communities, pointing out that the Agency is doing a great job of advocacy for the riverine communities.
