Former Imo State Governor, Achike Udenwa, has declared that he will not contest another election and has expressed support for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Udenwa made the remarks during a meeting of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Imo State.
He said despite being qualified to seek another elective position, he had decided not to contest and would instead support Obi.
He said: “I don’t want to contest for any election again. I’m 100% qualified, but because we want a better Nigeria, that is why we want Mr. Peter Obi to become the President of Nigeria. Some of us have decided to come forward and make our voices heard.”
Udenwa served as Imo State governor from 1999 to 2007 and later served as a federal minister. Recent NDC statements have also identified him as the party’s caucus leader in Imo State, alongside other former governors and political leaders serving as caucus heads across the South-East.
Udenwa’s comments have since generated mixed reactions on X, with some users welcoming his decision to support Obi while others questioned his political record and said they preferred that he stay away from elective office.
