Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr has opened up about how different her life might have been if she had never found success in the music industry.
The award-winning star admitted that she occasionally reflects on what her reality would look like without the career that has made her one of Africa’s most celebrated artists. According to her, she believes she would likely be unemployed and still relying on her family for support.
Speaking during an interview with EE72, the singer shared her candid thoughts about an alternate path her life could have taken.
“If I weren’t doing music, I would literally be unemployed. I don’t even think I would be a content creator because that’s a lot of work. I would just be chilling in my mum’s house and eating my mum’s food,” she said.
Ayra Starr also looked back on a pivotal moment in her journey to stardom. She recalled the excitement she felt after learning that renowned music executive Don Jazzy had already been paying attention to her music before she officially joined Mavin Records.
At the time, the singer was still building her presence online and working hard to gain recognition as an emerging artist.
Reflecting on that period, she said:
“I was so excited when I found out they were listening to my music. You know who it is.”
Years ago, Don Jazzy revealed the story behind Ayra Starr’s discovery. According to him, her unique sound and originality immediately stood out, prompting him to reach out to her.
However, making contact was not straightforward. The music mogul disclosed that Ayra Starr did not initially respond to his message. Undeterred, he reached out to her brother after spotting him in one of her social media posts. That effort eventually led to her signing with Mavin Records in 2020.
Beyond discussing her rise to fame, the singer also spoke about the downsides of being in the public eye. She admitted that she sometimes wishes fans knew less about her personal life because she has a habit of sharing too much.
“I really wish people knew less about me. Once the camera comes on, I can’t stop talking, and I feel like I overshare,” she confessed.
