Nigerian rapper and singer Ycee has spoken candidly about his struggle with mental health, revealing that he was diagnosed with a mental health disorder in 2020.
The music star made the disclosure during a recent interview, where he reflected on how the diagnosis, medication, and repeated hospitalisations affected both his personal life and career.
According to Ycee, the condition significantly impacted his creativity, forcing him to come to terms with a new reality.
Speaking on the experience, he said:
“I was diagnosed with a mental health disorder in 2020.
After medications and multiple hospitalisations, I had to accept that the version of me I knew wasn’t coming back.
It affected my creativity.
I could no longer freestyle like I used to.”
The rapper explained that one of the hardest parts of the journey was accepting the changes the condition brought to his creative abilities. Known for his lyrical skills and freestyle talent, Ycee admitted that his mental health challenges altered the way he approaches music.
