The Nigerian Army and the Kaduna State Government have stepped up efforts to address seasonal security threats through closer collaboration among security agencies, communities and other stakeholders.
Governor Uba Sani stated this during a security sector stakeholders’ meeting in Kaduna, which focused on recurring threats such as banditry, farmer-herder clashes, abductions and attacks on rural communities, particularly during the rainy season.
He said the state had recorded some improvement in security through cooperation between government, security agencies, traditional institutions and local communities.
The governor noted that previous engagements had led to improved intelligence sharing, coordinated responses and increased community participation in security efforts.
“As the rainy season returns, so do familiar patterns of security challenges which threaten food security and rural livelihoods,” he said.
Sani said addressing the challenges would require collective efforts from stakeholders, including traditional leaders, civil society groups and residents.
Also speaking, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Abubakar Wase, said the rainy season has historically been associated with increased security challenges in the state.
He said earlier engagements had improved coordination among stakeholders and contributed to a reduction in violent incidents in some areas.
Wase called for improved threat mapping, stronger early warning systems and enhanced joint patrols to prevent a resurgence of insecurity.
Other officials highlighted measures such as strengthening early warning and response mechanisms, improving dialogue between farmers and herders, and enhancing intelligence gathering.
The meeting brought together security agencies, traditional rulers, civil society organisations and community representatives to discuss strategies for sustaining peace and stability in the state.
