Political commentator, Eneh Victor Chigozie, has advised the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, not to contest the 2027 presidential election, claiming that some political figures are misleading him about his chances.
In a statement, Chigozie alleged that former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Senator Seriake Dickson were deceiving Obi into believing he still has a viable path to the presidency in 2027.
According to him, the political landscape in the Southeast has shifted in favour of President Bola Tinubu, whom he said has already secured the backing of key stakeholders across the region.
Chigozie claimed that Southeast governors, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, had endorsed President Tinubu’s re-election bid. He also asserted that young Igbo entrepreneurs under the platform known as the “City Boy Movement,” alongside various political structures in the Southeast, were supporting the President.
He argued that since the Southeast has traditionally been Obi’s political stronghold, suffering defeat in the region would be a significant setback if he chooses to run again.
“I advise Peter Obi to read the handwriting on the wall and do the needful,” Chigozie said, expressing confidence that President Tinubu would secure at least 60 percent of the votes in the Southeast during the 2027 presidential election.
