The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), bullying, cultism, and drug abuse in public secondary schools, warning that every learner deserves a safe and secure environment.
The declaration was made during a sensitisation programme organised by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in collaboration with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the Ministry of Youth and Social Development.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, urged teachers to remain vigilant and never ignore complaints of bullying or abuse, stressing that educators are not only instructors but also mentors, counsellors, and protectors.
He also encouraged students to speak up against intimidation, report abuse promptly, and support classmates who may be victims of violence or harassment.
Permanent Secretary Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite said the initiative reflects Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and conducive learning environments where students can thrive academically and morally.
Officials from the DSVA and the Ministry of Youth and Social Development educated participants on recognising and reporting abuse, the dangers of cultism and substance abuse, and the support services available for victims.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to strengthening partnerships and sustaining awareness campaigns aimed at protecting learners and promoting positive behaviour across all public secondary schools.
