Speaking during a live interview on Channels Television, Waiya reacted to the recent political visit involving opposition heavyweights who gathered in Kano for the reception of former governor, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The visit reportedly included big names like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and other top political figures such as Rotimi Amaechi and David Mark.
But the Kano official downplayed the significance of the gathering, claiming the crowd size did not reflect the influence of the political “heavyweights” present.
In his words, he questioned the scale of support, saying the gathering was limited and did not extend beyond a single location.
He claimed:
“Look at the heavyweights that were in Kano… but look at the crowd they were able to pull. It is just within the premises of Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s residence and may not even exceed 5,000 people.”
The statement has now triggered fresh debate online, with supporters of the opposition arguing that crowd size does not necessarily reflect political strength, while critics insist it shows the reality of ground support ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political observers say the event highlights the growing tension and rivalry between Nigeria’s major political blocs as realignments continue ahead of the next general election.
With 2027 still ahead, analysts believe these verbal exchanges are just a preview of what may become a heated political season across the country.
