CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A 46-year-old man, Anjorin Kayode, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court over allegations of assault occasioning harm.
The defendant was brought before the court by the Commissioner of Police on a two-count charge marked CHADCE 20 / Charge No / 2026.
According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred on 27th May, 2026 at about 1440hrs at No. 26, Ogunjobi Street, Dopemu, Agege, within the Lagos Magisterial District.
The prosecution alleged in Count I that Anjorin Kayode committed a felony to wit assault occasioning harm. The offence is said to be contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
In Count II, the Police alleged that the defendant assaulted one Akande Temitope by using a fist blow to inflict injury on her right eye. The offence is punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The case was said to have emanated from a dispute between the defendant and the complainant. The details leading to the altercation were not disclosed in court.
The charge sheet listed the Investigating Police Officer as ASP Afariogun Monisola of Dopemu Division, Agege.
When the charges were read to him, Anjorin Kayode pleaded not guilty to all the counts preferred against him.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the allegations.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
Legal observers at the proceedings noted that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. The court is expected to continue with the matter on the next adjourned date.
