Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, has concluded plans to commission what it describes as Nigeria’s first enterprise-grade 10 Gigabits per second (10Gbps) Smart Campus Network as part of efforts to strengthen digital learning, research and innovation.
The commissioning, scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2026, is being executed in partnership with the Advanced Technological Incubation and Research Center.
According to a statement issued by the institution’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, ‘Yemi Ajibola, the event will hold at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Auditorium by 11 a.m.
The statement noted that the initiative is aimed at repositioning the polytechnic as a technology-driven institution capable of supporting advanced teaching, research and innovation through high-speed digital infrastructure.
It added that the institution has already commenced pilot deployment of the network, with staff and students benefiting from internet speeds of up to 10,000 megabits per second.
The management said the infrastructure provides secure, reliable and ultra-low-latency connectivity capable of supporting thousands of simultaneous users, digital learning, research activities, innovation hubs and other data-intensive academic and administrative operations.
According to the statement, the commissioning ceremony is expected to attract senior government officials, captains of industry, technology experts, development partners and other stakeholders in the education and ICT sectors.
The Chairman of the Governing Council, Emeritus Professor Kamaldeen Balogun, and the Rector, Arc. Dr. Babatunde ‘Koye Jolaoso, are expected to lead members of the institution in receiving guests at the event.
The management described the project as a major milestone in the institution’s digital transformation agenda, expressing optimism that it would enhance teaching, learning, entrepreneurship and technology-driven research.
It also invited researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, students, media practitioners and members of the public to witness the commissioning, which it said would set a new benchmark for digital infrastructure in Nigeria’s higher education sector.
