Nigerian singer Mayorkun has recalled a piece of advice he received from Afrobeats superstar Davido shortly after breaking into the music industry.
The singer shared the experience while speaking on the In My Opinion show, in a clip that surfaced on X on October 5, 2026.
Mayorkun revealed that he was initially carried away by the attention he received from women after becoming famous. However, Davido, who was already an established figure in the industry, took him aside and offered him some personal advice.
According to Mayorkun, Davido gave him what he described as “street OT” practical advice based on real-life experience.
Recounting the conversation, he said:
“Davido gave me a street OT. When I newly blew, I was happy bagging all the baddies. He called me aside and said when I stop popping, those same girls will be around the next new artiste. I took his advice and later saw exactly what he meant.”
Mayorkun rose to prominence under Davido’s DMW record label, giving him the opportunity to learn directly from the award-winning singer as he navigated the pressures that came with fame.
During the interview, the conversation also touched on Mayorkun’s relatively private personal life and his avoidance of some of the relationship controversies that have surrounded other entertainers.
The singer suggested that Davido’s early warning helped him maintain perspective and avoid getting carried away by the attention that came with his growing popularity.
His revelation offers a glimpse into the mentor-protégé relationship between the two artistes and highlights how Davido’s guidance extended beyond music to the challenges that often come with sudden fame and public attention.
